Tamarind Gallery and Workshop is a unique space devoted to the art of Lithography - a printing technique using stone.
 

Discover the art, craft, and collaborative process of lithography at Tamarind Institute.

Join us for a special behind-the-scenes visit to Tamarind Institute, one of the world's leading centers for fine-art lithography and a unique part of Albuquerque's—and the University of New Mexico's—artistic landscape.
 

Founded in Los Angeles in 1960 to revitalize the art of lithography, Tamarind relocated to Albuquerque in 1970 and became affiliated with UNM's College of Fine Arts. Today, the Institute brings together a working professional printmaking workshop, gallery, and educational program, where artists and master printers collaborate to create original lithographs.

Our evening will take us inside both the working workshop and gallery, with the opportunity to meet Tamarind's director, observe printers at work, view the current exhibition, and see new editions being created.

Evening Program

5:30 PM — Arrive and welcome by Diana Gaston, Director of Tamarind Institute

5:45–6:15 PM — Tour of the workshop with a Tamarind Education Fellow and observe printers at work

6:15–6:45 PM — Tour of Edges of Lithography with the Gallery Director, followed by a viewing of new editions

6:45–7:15 PM — Reception and time to explore the gallery and library
 

The evening will also feature Edges of Lithography, organized by Scout Hutchinson, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at the Parrish Art Museum.

This is a rare opportunity to experience Tamarind not simply as a gallery, but as a living center for the art, craft, and collaborative process of lithography.
 

The event is FREE.

Accessibility: Tamarind is handicap accessible, with a ground-floor entrance and no stairs, as well as an elevator.

Tamarind is located at the corner of Central Avenue and Stanford Drive.

Limited parking is available in the lot behind the Tamarind building. Additional parking is available in the Cornell Parking Structure on Redondo Drive.

Please use the Stanford Drive side entrance and ring the buzzer for the Gallery.
